Edging Out Onto the Limb

Now that I have, for all intents and purposes, finished MdP, it's time to do something about those 11 agents I have lined up.

On Friday, I made copies of the entire ms, the first 100 pages of the ms, and ten copies of the first 10 pages.

On Saturday, I wrote the first three letters and did submission packages to the three agents to whom I actually spoke at East of Eden.

On Sunday, I wrote the other eight letters and and did submission packages to the other eight agents.

On Wednesday, I will take all of them down to the post office and put postage on the SASEs ande postage on the packages themselves. This means that I have officially pushed MdP out the door before November, and now have a WHOLE WEEK to enjoy my freedom and leisure before Nano kicks in.

Let's keep our fingers cross and hope that at least one of the agents calls me back and tells me....well, we can hope that one calls to tell me I'm a genius, but I'd settle for one calling me and telling me that with a whole lot of work, he might be able to fop it off on someone. It'd be a start.

That's great! I'm so happy for you!

How nice to start Nano with a really clean slate.

Hold out for "you're a genius" AND "I think we can fob this off on someone". :D Congratulations! That's a wonderful feeling, to have the damned thing done.

Whoa Nelly! Way to go!!!! Man, I couldn't be happier if it were me (well, maybe a tad). I'd cross my fingers too, but what a freaking waste of time -- I heard you read from your book last year, so I KNOW they're gonna come knocking.

I'll start looking for my invitation to your book launch/movies rights sale party next week! Oh yeah, when you take the jacket photo, remember to wear something generic so that fifty years from now, when the Comparative American Lit professor holds up you're book, you won't look like some early 2000s throwback.

feralboy2 is right about that. Wear Channel. That never goes out of style.

Congratulations and much happy jumping up and down and hooting! Getting them out the door is a huge, scary, wonderful step.

Sticking those puppies through the mail slot is the scariest thing, isn't it? I can't wait to hear what the agents have to say, especially the one that says, "Sign here, so I can send this to a couple of editors I know..."
