Not Again!!

And hard on the heels of receiving the geriatric catalog, I get....THE SHINGLES!

This is the second time, but the type that I get (severe and across my face) are apparently recurring. So, I just feel very special.

This explains many things, including my general feeling of having some sort of low-grade illness that I couldn't shake. Because it's shingles.

Somebody get me some Geritol, will ya?

And, being worn down can allow the virus that causes shingles to release.

I assume your doc has prescribed some Valtrex?

Hope you feel better soon. I know how much shingles can suck. My case was along the V1 and V2 nerves. Luckily, after looking at serious cases of it, I found that I had a mild case. It still hurt quite a bit.

Yeah, I have Valtrex at home all the time now, but because I'm just clueless, it takes me a long time to realize that what I have isn't just a weird combination of pimples and the flu, it's something far worse.

And then, while I'm looking online to see if there's anything I can take to quell the pain (yes, apparently I can take some killer antidepressants) I find out that if you get them on your face, you run the risk of blindness.

And that normally you only get shingles if you're over 60. I'm not even 40, but I'm just such an overachiever that I have now gotten them twice in the space of a year.

Feh.

Yeah, I kept my bottles around, too, just in case. Though, they've probably expired by now.

And, I totally understand taking a while to realize that it's not the flu and such. I went through the same thoughts. When I finally saw the doctor, she said that I had shingles, almost immediately. I now have it in my head if the breakout is only on one side to start thinking that it could be shingles. Though, I'll probably forget that, initially, if it happens again.

I think it does depend on which facial nerves get hit. There is that risk. But, I think that's also if it doesn't get treated. And, even starting the valtrex late seemed to help for me.

From what I know, the reason they believe it typically happens to older folk is that it's because their immune response is lowering as they get older. I think that's what happened with me. A combination of drugs plus getting worn down caused my immune response to be weak. At least, that's my belief.

Good luck on a quick recovery.

That sucks!
That sucks! It is a compilation of all the work stress and book worry. It sounds like you need to retreat from the world for awhile, just like me.

Man on man. *gentle hugs I am sorry to hear about the shingles. Especially across the face. I hope they clear up fast and without incident.

Friend of mine got them when she was 23 and promptly gave me my second case of chicken pox as a result. If your littles haven't had chicken pox this should do it for them.
