Happy Wear a Shitload of Nasty Cologne to the Office Day.

Sorry I didn't participate, but it's gratifying to see that everyone else did.

Oh my... this brings back memories.

During the dot.com boom we had a lot of people from foreign offices working in San Jose because we needed the man power and they wanted the experience working for dot.coms. Well... the French were very definitely anti-deodorent, anti-soap and anti-bathing. It got bad enough we were complaining to HR to talk to these guys and threatening to leave samples of deodorant on their desks.

Someone in our office building started celebrating Wear a Shitload of Nasty Cologne to the Office Day early, yesterday. There are few things worse than walking into an elevator filled to bursting with a long-gone passenger's nasty cologne funk.

Ugh. I used to work near a woman who wore a bottle of something - Obsession? - every day that just gave me a major headache. Luckily it was a temp job and only lasted a week.

Some colognes are more powerful than others. I personally love Obsession, but in order for it to smell right (i.e., subtle enough that a person would have to nuzzle your neck to smell it, which is the whole REASON for cologne), you really can't wear more than 4 molecules of it. I found this out the hard way when I came into the office one day and a friend who loves me enough to tell me the truth said "Okay, you are NOT coming in here smelling like that."

I love friends like that.
