North American Trade Off Agreement

disastrid and moxpob just left. The Pirate is jealous that the people I meet on the internet are capable of both conversation and personal hygiene. That's me, an Astute Judge of Character. While she was here, we had some interesting conversations. Canada supports gay marriage, is way left of America politically, decriminalized pot and has more liberal copyright laws that allow for downloading.

But apparently, they don't have high fructose corn syrup, the basis of ketchup, soda, candy, jams and jellies and anywhere that liquid sugar is appropriate. It's linked to diabetes and a host of health problems in rats, and I notice that Purina Rat Chow doesn't use it.

So...think very hard before you go characterizing Canada as the Northern Utopia, think about what you're going to put on your fries, what you're going to wash them down with, and what you're going to eat afterward.

Anywhere without massive corn subsidies and controls on the import of sugar wouldn't use so damned much of the foul shit.

And, Heinz organic ketchup is made with sugar, and yet remains rather close to the flavor I am accustomed to. A lot of other ketchups (the Trader Joe's stuff I tried) lack some of the complexity of the flavor of the Heinz.

Which is not to say that I don't like nearly everything else made of corn...
