Hemingway, Party of Five

Fishing was lovely. layer had mentioned the possibility of rain, but it was nowhere in evidence. On the way to the pond I had a lovely brush with God that left me feeling pretty unshakably serene and joyful, which meant that being the last person to actually catch a fish didn't matter in the least. I had my pickup truck, my bucket, my tackle box, my rod and reel and an extraneous bale of pine animal bedding. The only thing I lacked was a big ol' hound dog and some country music.

There was a group of kids from the Boys and Girls' Club having a fishing day, and there was one particular kid who was charmed. This kid would no sooner put his hook in the water then he'd be pulling out another fish. In the half hour that we were all there, this kid pulled at least four fish out of the water.

The best part was that he kept going up to idunno3, asking him to take the hook out of the fish's mouth. So, come the apocalypse, idunno3 has now had plenty of practice with all aspects of fishing.

We came home and picked up a chicken house that turns out to be much, much too small for our purposes. So...layer...we might have a present for you.....

If you're not a squeamish girlie, it's easier to take the hook out of the fish than to tie a new one on with fish-slimy hands.
