What Don't You Remember?

Slurped from snowwy
If you read this, if your eyes are passing over this right now, (even if we don't speak often) please post a comment with a COMPLETELY MADE UP AND FICTIONAL memory of you and me. It can be anything you want - good or bad - BUT IT HAS TO BE FAKE. When you're finished, post this little paragraph on your blog and be surprised (or mortified) about what people DON'T ACTUALLY remember about you.

Remember that time we went to San Francisco and got drunk and you said "But that's not MY water buffalo!"

That story cracks me up every time!

Remember that time when we decided to practice shooting our rifles and then one of the Nanos accidentally shot a turtle in the ass instead of skeet? But it turned out okay because I chopped him up and you made soup for all of us.

Remember the first time we met? I cut in front of you in line to see Showgirls, and you beat the crap out of me for it. My girlfriend at the time dumped me for being such a wimp. Sure, we became 'friends' afterwards, and laughed about it a lot. But what you don't realize is that I got my revenge. That Goat of the Month club subscription you keep get every Christmas from a 'secret admirer'? Me (using credit cards I've stolen from your relatives). It's expensive to ship those goats back, isn't it!

I remember the day we told the kids we were going to work, told work we were staying home with a sick kid, and went walking around in Big Basin looking at waterfalls and banana slugs. Remember when we sat down on that log to rest, but it was so rotten and waterlogged that it soaked our butts? That made walking back to the car kind of uncomfortable, but the hot lunch at Mama Golla's and the hot...fire back home made up for it.

There was that thing we did at that place that time. YOU remember. And the that whole bus of students from that bible college just kept staring and their teacher kept screaming and I don't know how you got the blood stains out. I really don't. Soda water?

Remember that time we were wandering the beach looking for buried pirate treasure and unearthed an entire whale skeleton? Ironically, right where the stomach would have been, we found, in the sand, two gold coins. I fashioned mine into a necklace, whereas you decided to keep it in your pocket as a "heads or tails" coin.

If the waves hadn't come in and washed the bones away, we were going to bring out kids there to use it as a junglegym.

It was a rainy December evening and we'd met at one of those toney hotel bars. I was wearing a green fedora, and you had red cowboy boots with stiletto heels. Don't ask why. Fashion choices should be celebrated not analyzed. We'd only ever interacted via sites like this, and the nano boards before, but somehow, sitting there nursing our drinks (mine was hot chocolate laced with rum and amoretto, yours was something much more sophisticated) we connected, writer to writer, each of us subsequently penning a short story about the roller skating priest and disco dancing nuns who were escorting a hippie Santa Claus down the street just outside...yours won some froufrou writing award, of course, while mine ended up as filler in a confessional magazine. Ah, good times, good times.

I loved the time we rode our motorcycles through the mountains of Argentina doing research on the proper management of chicken buses. The rain threatened to wash us out but only fell a few times. Too bad we had to eat our guide. I remember how we laughed about that.

Remember that time when we were in the same room together?

I remember that time we went cow-tipping in India, and then were ran out of town by all the locals. We had to run nearly four miles before they stopped chasing ups. And we both collapsed because we could hardly breath any more. I remember feeling like I was going to die after all that running.

Good times.

Naturally, my most vivid memory is the day we met, back when we used to work for the same pimp -- of course you remember Stan the Man, wore those fancy suits all the time, drove that Cadillac DeVille? (He's upgraded to an Escalade nowadays, y'know.) I remember thinking "Who's that hoochie walking around like she's Liz Taylor? She better not horn in on my classic film star shtick -- I got Marilyn Monroe locked up like that kid who used to play Willis on Diffrent Strokes!" But you just said "Hayigh, I'm Lyzah, yer new cornermate," and stuck out yer hand to shake like any ole dog would. I liked that. Too bad it didn't work out with Stan, though. Nasty business with you and Rose and the others. How's that stab wound healing up?

Oh, man, I totally remember that time we were hanging out at the King of Clubs and you got superdrunk and sang "I Will Survive" with this drag queen who was stoned out of her mind. It was awesome.

XD OMGosh! This makes me think of the time we went to the zoo! Remember the little duck that appeared to be spitting fire!! It was so funny! Especially when we tried to feed it some bread and we got back some toast...
