Announcing My Intention to Run

No, I'm not running for anything. I'm just running.

Any of you who have seen me in person can tell that I was no more built for speed and distance than a hippopotamus. However, there was a time in my life only a couple of years ago when I was running regularly. And then I had a baby and that came crashing to a halt. Well, I'm back. For the last week or so, I've actually been running at least 3 times a week.

The Pirate, who was a cross-country runner, is currently coaching me. My current plan:

1. Choose a goal.
My current goal is 5 miles/day @ 10 minutes/mile.

2. Start by running just a mile until you're at the right pace.
I'm at 4.6 miles/hour (13.04 minutes/mile).

3. Once the desired pace is achieved regularly, gradually increase distance.

You might ask why, at this late juncture in the narrative, I have chosen to do this. Really, it's easy. Running is the cheapest and most available "sport" I could find. My doctor told me that my back condition is such that if I stop moving/exercising, I will quickly become completely immobile. This thought terrifies me and motivates me like nobody's biz.

So, if you're out and about and see a Weeble in tennis shoes, wave!

Want a Healthrider rowing machine? I don't think I'm ever going to use it, and it's taking up a fair space in my dining room. You could consider it "payment"/gratitude for your upcoming help on the moving of stuff. And since you have a truck, you could pick it up, although I brought it here from Modesto in the back of my Saturn auto. :)

You're Too Kind
Thank you so much for the offer, but I've already got a Nordic Trak and a cross-trainer (we call it the "boinger") that are receiving much usage. I don't think I would know where to put one more thing. If you truly won't use it, you might think about consignment selling it at Play It Again Sports.
